Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style). Maximum four members to a group.
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of
FOUR images per candidate.
I chose this brief because I am interested in looking at magazines and how they are composed.

How well does your preliminary task fulfil the brief?
My prliminary task fulfils the brief as I have used a midium close up shot as a main image for my cover, i made the theme of the magazine clear to the target audience and used appropriate colours.
What obstacles did you overcome in order complete the preliminary task?
I found some dificulties in using the editing programm Photoshop as I am not very familiar with it. so I did minimal editing to picture and then i transfered it into publisher to actually compose the writing and insert the other pictures in the contents page.
How could you have improved the production values of your preliminary task?
To improve the production values of my prelinary task i could have took a more unconventional image shot that would have possibly appealed more to the target audience compared to the typical magazine image shot that I have used.
What tutorials did you use in order to help you complete the preliminary task?
I didnt use any tutorials to help me complete the preliminary task as i prefered to experiment myself first and explore the programmes to find solutions to my problems instead of immediately find tutorials.
What important lessons have your learned in preparation for completing your main task?
I have learnet that it is very important to read and make sure to understand the brief to be able to compose an appropriate response fulfilling it. I have also learnt differnt ways to manipulate an image and edit it in the most appropriate way accoding to the brief.
